ASCC Creates Advisory Council

Posted on 18 April 2010

An ASCC Advisory Council has been created with the elected representatives of Community Councils, with the aim of ensuring that the Community Council sector benefits from the talent of the most experienced and capable Community Councillors.

The ASCC Advisory Council is a network of invited Community Councillors who are distinguished by their skills, experience, or accomplishments. The Association’s Board agreed the plan at a meeting in 2009 which included representatives from across Scotland.

The Advisory Council has an informal structure, with no demand on members to attend regular meetings. Invitations to join the Council are made on the recommendation of elected ASCC area representatives and others.

Commenting on the Advisory Council, ASCC Vice President Frank Gunning said “across Scotland there are Community Councillors who have talents and experience that can benefit the ASCC and our Councils.  The ASCC’s elected structure only allows for one Community Councillor in each local authority area to be an elected representative, and so the Advisory Council is a way in which more of our fellow Community Councillors can have a national impact on our sector and the wider governance of Scotland.”

If you know of a Community Councillor who you feel can contribute, contact your ASCC Area Representative.
